Jim and Son TimJim Houston – President

Jim Houston has been a resident of Ponte Vedra Beach since 1986.  He started in the golf business as an Assistant Golf Professional at TPC Sawgrass in 1998.  He later served as an Assistant Professional at the Plantation at Ponte Vedra and Pablo Creek Club.  After being elected to membership in the PGA of America in 2004, he became a Director of Golf at Matanzas Woods in Palm Coast.  Jim was then transferred to The Golf Club at North Hampton in 2005, as the Director of Golf and General Manager.  In 2008, he became the General Manager of the Eagle Harbor Golf Club and was promoted to the North Florida Regional Manager for Hampton Golf.  In 2012, Jim accepted an opportunity to become the General Manager of The Golf Club at South Hampton.


Matt BoroczMatt Borocz – Vice President

Matt Borocz started with the TPC Network in 1999 in the outside operations department at TPC Myrtle Beach. In 2002 he was promoted to Assistant Golf Professional. Matt had the opportunity to transfer to TPC Sawgrass in 2004 as an Assistant Golf Professional and promoted to Head Golf Professional in May 2007. In August 2013 Matt was promoted to Assistant General Manager/Director of Golf. Matt’s hometown is Strongsville, OH, which is just southwest of Cleveland, OH. Matt attended Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC and graduated in 2002 with a BSBA in Marketing/Specializing in Professional Golf Management. Matt has been a member of the PGA of America since 2004 and received the 2014 Golf Professional of the Year award from the American Junior Golf Association.


Steve HornerSteve Horner – Treasurer

Steve Horner is a lifelong resident of the north Florida and has played in virtually all local junior golf tournaments (Elks Tour, JAGA, etc.) and competed three years for Fletcher High School.

Graduated from the University of North Florida and was a member of the collegiate golf team. After graduation, Steve turned professional and was golf professional at the Ponte Vedra Golf & Country Club (formerly Oak Bridge) for four years. He then took a job with the PGA TOUR and has been with the organization for over twenty-six years. Steve currently holds the position of Vice President, Title Sponsor Relations.

Steve is an avid golfer and has competed in a variety of national and state level amateur events over the years. He was a champion of the local Gate Petroleum PGA Invitational in 1987 and 2001 and has competed in eight Underwood Cup PGA Pro vs. Amateur Matches. In 2008 and 2009, Steve had the honor of captaining the Amateur Team during these prestigious matches.

He and his wife, Shay, have two children and currently reside in Ponte Vedra Beach.

For 27 years, Sprague was the General Manager and Director of Golf at Malone (N.Y.) Golf Club, his hometown course. In 2016, Sprague was named Managing Director of Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, NJ, site of the 2017 Presidents Cup. After the Presidents Cup, Sprague relocated to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and joined the TPC Sawgrass leadership team as General Manager.

Sprague earned his PGA Membership in 1993 and has served in many leadership roles with the PGA of America serving as its national President from 2014-2016 and currently serves as the Honorary President. Through Sprague’s leadership, the PGA of America was instrumental in growing the game through player development and youth programs such as PGA Junior League Golf and the Drive, Chip & Putt Championship. In addition, he co-chaired the highly successful Ryder Cup Task Force, which created a blueprint for success in the event.

Don is a native of Jacksonville Florida, and has been an insurance executive for over 40 years. He is Vice President of Insurance Office of America leading the operations of the Jacksonville Branch. He was in the PGA Program in the 1970’s, He is a sponsor of the North Florida Chapter of the PGA and has been active in the community with service on many boards to include the University of North Florida Foundation board from 1992-2012. Currently he is the Immediate Past President (2016-2017) of the Board of Governors at San Jose Country Club and chairs the Strategical Planning Committee.

Kevin grew up in the beaches community and has been a resident of Ponte Vedra since 1974. He graduated from Fletcher High School and Florida State University. He has been providing tax and accounting services in the Jacksonville area since 1989. Kevin and his wife Kathy have been married since 1993. They stay very busy raising their three children and being involved in their lives. They are active members of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Kevin served two terms on the School Board of Palmer Catholic Academy where he served on the finance committee and as Chairman. He was also on the Parish Council at St. Paul’s Catholic Church where he served on the finance committee. He has been a coach for many of his kid’s teams as they’ve played football, soccer, baseball, lacrosse, basketball, volleyball and cross country. Kevin is a C.P.A. and also holds Series 6, 7, and 66 securities licenses, and Florida Life, Health & Variable Annuity certifications.


Will KurtzWill Kurtz – Scholarship Chairman

Originally from the Central Florida area, Will joined the U.S. Navy a month after graduation from high school where he rose through the enlisted ranks and ultimately earned a commission as a Naval Officer. In 1998 the navy brought Will to Jacksonville where he continued to serve until his retirement in 2008. While in the navy, Will served in duty stations from Japan, to Hawaii, to the East Coast of the U.S. and conducted missions throughout the Western Pacific, Persian Gulf, and Counter-narcoterrorism Operations in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific. Also, while serving in the navy Will earned his undergraduate degree from Auburn University and his law degree from Florida Coastal School of Law. After retiring he began his law career as an Assistant State Attorney with the 4th Judicial Circuit in Jacksonville. Will is currently a senior trial attorney with The Law Offices of Ronald E. Sholes, P.A. serving all of Florida. Will began playing golf as a 21 year old while stationed in Japan and quickly grew to love the sport. Although not nearly a professional, his love and respect for the game has transferred to his son Charlie who is an active participant in NFJG and other junior golf in Florida. Will and his wife Melissa have three children – Madison, Natalie and Charlie – and live in St. Johns County.


Emily Tillo – Member at Large

Emily is one of the NFJG TOUR’s past superstars and former staff member and is currently a Communications Specialist at the PGA TOUR in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Emily played on the NFJG TOUR from 2007 to 2012 and played in 34 events, winning 12 times with a low round of one under par 71. After attending Stanton College Preparatory school in Jacksonville, Emily received golf and academic scholarships to Boston University. In May of 2013—after her freshman year of college—Emily joined forces with the NFJG TOUR and became a Rules Instructor and Rules Official working with the Tour during the summer months. She reunited with the NFJG TOUR Staff, helping them out during her days back in her hometown.

While at BU, Emily majored in finance and minored in journalism, and she graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.94 in May of 2016. Five days after graduation, Emily started her full-time job at the PGA TOUR and has been loving every minute of it! Emily was named the 2014, 2015, and 2016 Patriot League Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the 2016 Boston University Athletics Woman of the Year and a 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year Top-30 Honoree. She became the first student-athlete in Boston University history to be named one of the top-30 honorees for the NCAA’s Woman of the Year award, which “honors the academic achievements, athletics excellence, community service and leadership of graduating female college athletes from all three divisions.” Ten women from each of the three NCAA divisions were selected from a pool of 142 conference nominees and an initial pool of 517 school nominees nationwide. Emily was also a member of the Scarlet Key Honor Society: she was one of 48 students in the class of 2016 (approximately 1% of the class) nominated for induction into this activities society at Boston University.

 


Jeff Klauk – Member at Large 

Jeff has grown up here in Jacksonville and graduated from Nease High School. Dad, Fred, was the Golf course superintendent at the TPC @Sawgrass. Jeff grew up playing in Jacksonville area junior golf events as a young child. He won the JAGA Junior when he was 14.

He had a very successful junior career and earned a golf scholarship to Florida Southern College and was the 1st Team All American his last 3 years of school. He won the Individual National Championship his senior year. Jeff’s wife Shanna is also from Jacksonville and went to college at Florida Southern where she was a 2 time Individual. National Champion and a 4- time 1st Team All American.

Jeff played on the PGATOUR and Web.com Tour 2002-2015. In 2006 Jeff was diagnosed with epilepsy. His first seizure occurred at a Web.com event during the same year. He is currently fighting the fight to find a cure and help others. Doing his part to find that cure he raises needed dollars through golf events. Annually Jeff has his own charity golf event for epilepsy (Athletesvsepilepsygolf.com).

Jeff currently works for “Perfect Golf Event” here in town. Perfect Golf Event is a premier organizational resource for charity golf tournament planning whether it be fundraisers or corporate and sponsored golf tournaments!

Jeff and Shanna have two children Jackson who is currently on the NFJG TOUR and Bridget.

Michael Young – Member at Large

Senior Vice President, Strategic Accounts……Web.com

Michael Young is Senior Vice President of Strategic Accounts. In this role, Michael is responsible for helping the company activate in Web.com Tour markets. Currently the company is the Umbrella Sponsor of the Web.com Tour, and utilizes the relationship to build its brand awareness in the United States and around the world. In the summer of 2012, Web.com became the Umbrella sponsor of the Web.com Tour, the path to the PGA TOUR. It is a ten year commitment with the PGA TOUR.

Prior to joining Web.com, Michael previously served in leadership roles spanning 26 years in the healthcare industry, most recently as the Senior Vice President of Sales for Gentiva Health Services, the nation’s leading provider of Home Health and Hospice Services. Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Biscayne College, which is now St Thomas University in Miami, Florida. Mike has served on the Mandarin Sports Association Board, and also played Division ll golf for his alma mater. He now feels privileged to serve on the NFJG Board, since all three of his sons played on the Tour in their youth! Mike and his wife Gail have three children, and reside in St Johns County.
